Welcome to the western district!
Kone, capital of the Northern Province, has retained its original character in spite of the mining industry that has developed here. Here you'll find a variety of shops and the typical daily life of a village in the bush.
Koné offers a number of outdoor leisure pursuits, such as hiking and pony trekking or jet skiing in the lagoon and mangroves.
You might be lucky enough to catch a concert in the hall of the Pomémie de Koné cultural centre, where world-famous violinist Didier Lockwood has appeared.
About thirty kilometres away in the municipality of Voh, you can visit the eco-musée du Café where you’ll step back in time in this culture that has marked the history of the North of Grande Terre (the principal island).
A little further north you come to Koumac where you can explore the caves of Notre-Dame and go rock climbing.
Finally, you’ll find the road to the East Coast a delight, tucked in between the mountains and the ocean.
